All you'll need to do is get a provisional UK license, suitable clothing and then book your CBT.

Why was Compulstory Basic Training introduced?

The reason that the government has brought in CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) tests in December 1990 was that it wanted to ensure that, before taking to the roads, people of all ages had at least a basic understanding regarding being in control of two-wheeled machines. The knock-on effect of this was to try and reduce the number of collisions involving motorcycles and mopeds. On completion of the evaluation, you shall receive on the day your pass certificate, also known as a DL196.

Is CBT a test or an evaluation?

Contrary to popular belief, a CBT is more of an evaluation than a test; your instructor will, throughout the day, observe your abilities and, if you complete the day to the required competency, you shall be awarded a pass certificate (professionally known as a DL196). A CBT certificate is valid for two years and once you have completed your full motorcycle examination, you will no longer have to renew your CBT. However, if you do not carry on your training in West Bedlington, you will be required to re-sit your CBT test after two years.

How long will my CBT certificate be valid?

You should be aware that, once you have completed your CBT Test in West Bedlington, it shall remain valid for two years. If, after two years have expired and you have not gone on to complete your training and take your full motorcycle certification, then your DL196 will no longer be valid. However, you will be able to book another test through Book CBT Now.
